Working with the Coded Terms

Viewing the Coded Terms

Consider a case having the "Country of Occurrence” and the "Company Unit” not entered as Japan; the application then sends the verbatim terms entered in "English” to agEncoder for coding.

For a Reported term received in "English”:

  1. In the "Event” data entry page, enter the Reported term verbatim. For example, enter the reported term as "FEVER”.

  2. Save the case and submit the terms to agEncoder.
    agEncoder
associates the received verbatim term with the standard dictionary terms and sends these mapped terms  back to ARISg.

To submit the terms to agEncoder, follow one of the methods:

Method 1: Manual Submission

On the Tools menu, click agEncoder and select Submit to agEncoder.

Method 2: Automatic Submission

Complete the workflow activity. The application automatically sends the terms to agEncoder, only when your administrator has enabled the option "Send to agEncoder” when defining the workflow.

  1. To view the coded information, click the MedDRA-Japanese link on the Event data entry page.
The code and decode of the English verbatim term (with the equivalent Japanese term) appear in the MedDRA Japanese as well as the Event data entry pages.

On the contrary, for a reported term entered in "Japanese”, the code and decode of the Japanese verbatim terms (with the equivalent English term) appear in the MedDRA Japanese and Event data entry pages.

Viewing the coded terms Immediately

When you set the agEncoder as the Coding system (i.e. ARISg installation parameter - Coding System = agEncoder) and you want to view the coding information immediately (online coding) then, set the following installation parameters:

Note: You can view the Coding information for the verbatim terms entered in ARISg immediately, when the installation parameters are set to Yes. The reported term entered in a case are sent to agEncoder (for coding) using menu option ’resubmit to agEncoder’ or on workflow activity completion..

  1. Enter the Disease term in the Disease tab page of Full Data Entry Screen.

  2. Press the tab key on the Keyboard.
Request is sent to agEncoder for coding the disease term.

If the entered term finds an exact match in the VTA list, then the corresponding coding information appears in ARISg application

If there is no exact match in VTA then the term is compared with the dictionary terms. On finding an exact match with the dictionary term then the corresponding coding information appears in ARISg application.

If the term does not finds a direct match in VTA nor in a dictionary, then coding information is not displayed in the ARISg application.

If  you select MedDRA lookup and code the term, then the coding type appears as Manual in the application.

The table illustrates the coding type corresponding to the auto coding parameters set in the Admin application.

Note:Background process updates the coding information (in ARISg) based on the

Coding type. If the Coding type is Manua’ or Blank, then the results returned from agEncoder (via background process) overwrites the coding information already entered in ARISg Data Entry screen.
